Welcome to Beamer’s Holiday Beat, Bronner’s e-newsletter for everyone who shares Wally Bronner’s and my passion for Christmas. (Wally asked me to tell you there are only 294 days until Christmas!)

Bronner’s buyers have returned from the winter trade shows and are busy placing orders for beautiful new products to fill your decorating and gift-giving needs. Our own ornament design team has finalized artwork for Bronner’s new, exclusive ornament designs and sent the artwork off to ornament manufacturers. Work on Bronner’s 2007/2008 catalog is also well underway.

I’ll be shining especially bright this month in celebration of Originator Wally and Irene Bronners’ 80th birthdays. If you’re in the Frankenmuth area on Friday, March 9, please join Wally in our Season’s Eatings snack area for a complimentary beverage and cookie in celebration of this milestone birthday. Wally will also be signing purchases of his books, “Picturesque Story of Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland” and “Sharing Joy 365.” Take 17% off your purchase of $17 or more during Bronner’s Luck ’O the Irish Sale now through March 18.

Daylight savings time begins on Sunday, March 11, and the spring equinox arrives on Tuesday, March 20. As the weather warms here in Michigan, our thoughts turn to friends like you whose year-round friendship is a real joy. Blessed Easter and Happy Spring to you all!

Have melting snows and hints of sunshine given you a touch of spring fever? Indulge your desire for bright colors and beautiful blooms with our selection of spring items. You’ll be imagining April showers and May flowers in no time.

Tradition of the Painted Egg
The Eastern European tradition of painting eggs developed as a result of their exchange as Easter presents. In many countries eggs were a symbol of eternal life. The egg was likened to the tomb from which Christ arose. A desire to enhance the beauty of these Easter gifts led to the folk tradition of egg painting.

Bronner’s Flavorful Favorites
We thought you might like to try one of the recipes from Bronner’s staff cookbook, “Bronner’s Flavorful Favorites.” The cookbook features over 400 recipes submitted by Bronner’s staff and is available online or in-store for $13.99.

Classic Rice Casserole
submitted by Nancy Piggott

2 c. cooked rice
6 boiled eggs, chopped
4 c. cooked chicken
2 c. diced celery, cut small
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 small can chopped pimentos (optional)
4 T. minced onion
2 T. lemon juice
½ c. buttered bread crumbs
1 c. slivered almonds

Combine the rice, eggs, chicken and celery. Mix together the soup, pimentos, onion and lemon juice. Combine with the chicken mixture. Put in a sprayed 13 x 9-inch pan. Sprinkle top with the buttered bread crumbs and top with slivered almonds. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes. Goes very well with a fresh fruit salad. (Also a great way to use up extra Easter eggs!)
