BRONNER IS WITH THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN Back
to Top
April 2, 2008
Frankenmuth, Michigan – Wally Bronner, originator of Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland, was welcomed home to heaven by the Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 1, 2008. Born on March 9, 1927, in Frankenmuth, Wally established a sign-painting and Christmas-decorations business in 1945, which has grown to the World’s Largest Christmas Store®.
On Easter Sunday,
March 24, 2008, Wally announced to his staff by letter that “our loving
Lord and Savior, the CHRIST of CHRISTmas, is ready to receive me into HIS heavenly
kingdom where all believers in the creator God will be with Him forever and
ever.” Wally leaves behind his wife Irene, son Wayne and his wife Lorene,
daughter Carla and her husband Bob, son Randy, daughter Maria Sutorik and her
husband Christopher, and five grandsons: Dietrich and Garrett Bronner; and Ryan,
Paul and Greg Spletzer. Wally turned over the day-to-day operations of the family
business to the second generation in 1998 but had remained active in the business
and enjoyed being there every day ending in “y.”
Wally was an active member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and many community
organizations. He was an active public speaker. Wally also was an avid supporter
of many charitable organizations.
In thankfulness to God for His many blessings, Wally and Irene and family constructed the Silent Night Memorial Chapel on Bronner’s premises in 1992. (Bronner’s memorial chapel is a replica of the original chapel in Oberndorf, Austria, that was built on the site where “Silent Night” was first sung in 1818.)
Wally loved to share
his Christian faith summarized in these 25 words: “For God so loved the
world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
In lieu of flowers, Wally’s and the family wishes are that memorials be
made to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church Foundation, the Salvation Army, the Gideons,
or the City of Frankenmuth Beautification Fund.
Bronner's will be closed Monday, April 7 from 9am-12:30pm in observance of Originator Wally Bronner's funeral.

November 7, 2007
Frankenmuth, Michigan - Somebody has to do it. Craig Fick, commercial salesman for Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, is happy to have the job. Fick has supplied 35 movie sets with décor since 1996.
Two of the movies will open soon in theaters. "Fred Claus," starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti, will be released November 9. "I Am Legend," starring Will Smith, will be out December 14.
In "Fred Claus," the bitter, older brother of Nicholas Claus/Santa Claus is forced to move to the North Pole. Will he ruin Christmas?
"I sold a Santa chair and building front décor to the studio for "Fred Claus," Fick said.
In "I Am Legend," a brilliant scientist is the last human survivor of a viral plague. While fighting mutant victims of the plague, he tries to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood.
"I don't believe any scenes in 'I Am Legend" take place at Christmas," said Fick. "We did, however, sell the studio many lights."
Fick is currently working with three films that should be released in 2008. "The Time Traveler's Wife" stars Eric Bana and Michelle Nolden. The romantic drama tells the story of a Chicago librarian with a gene that causes him to involuntarily time travel and the complications it creates for his marriage.
"I sold them skylines, a building-front halo star, and several ivy ornament sprays," Fick said.
"The Lovely Bones," starring Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon, is about a 14-year-old girl from suburban Pennsylvania who is brutally raped and murdered by her neighbor. She tells the story from heaven, showing the lives of the people around her and how they have changed, all the while attempting to get someone to find her lost body.
"They have ordered 8-foot flame candle pole mounts, pole wraps, a dozen 40-foot skylines, wreaths and bows," said Fick. "They're also looking at a 20-foot tree and other décor for a scene to be shot on the inside of a shopping center."
"The four Christmases," starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, is about a couple struggling to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day. Fick is just beginning work with the studio.

FINEST CACHE Back

May 22, 2007
Frankenmuth, Michigan - Bronner’s joined the world of geocaching (gee-oh-cashing)
on Tuesday, May 15, with the placement of a cache on the Bronner property. Geocaching
is an entertaining adventure game for GPS (Global Positioning System) users.
A GPS unit is an electronic device that can determine a location within roughly
six to 20 feet using coordinates given typically in terms of latitude and longitude.
Geocachers use the GPS unit to navigate from one location to another in search
of a cache (a type of treasure in a weatherproof container).
People set up caches worldwide and register the locations of these caches on
the Internet. A cache generally holds a log, various rewards, and often a “travel
bug” that is trying to reach a particular destination with the help of
cachers. (Travel bugs are items that are tagged so its movement can be tracked.)When
a geocacher takes an item from a cache, he is asked to replace it with something
else of value. Before it was initially discovered, Bronner’s cache held
a $5 Bronner’s gift certificate, travel bug on a silver bell, stickers,
small toys, etc.
Thank you to Wendy Taylor (customer service) and her husband Wayne for setting
up Joy 361 Frankenmuth’s Finest Cache for Bronner’s. (The Taylors,
experienced geocachers, are members of the Cass River Cachers.) For more information

The world's largest Christmas store is feverishly stocking its shelves with hot holiday product for Christmas 2006. Buyers for Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland hope their holiday picks will fly just as quickly off the shelves and into decorators' homes this holiday season.
Penguins, dance, and more-personalization-than-ever are trends that Bronner's
buyers expect to be popular.
"Penguin ornaments and trims should be very strong sellers this year, perhaps
due to the release of 'March of the Penguins'," said Anne Koehler, Bronner's
salesroom merchandise manager. "Dance ornaments and trims also look to
be very popular," Koehler said, "probably due to ABC's success with
"Dancing with the Stars."
Personalized ornaments will continue to ride the wave that first broke a few
years ago. New inflatables offered by Bronner's will include a lighthouse, fishing
Santa in a boat, beach Santa with palm trees, and new snow globes (some animated).
"Almost all trees will be prelit and more realistic than ever," according
to Sandra Schafsnitz, Bronner's assistant salesroom merchandise manager.

Collectibles magnate Department 56 is offering some new village pieces with
LED/battery lighting that eliminates cords. Glitter lamps (glitter instead of
lava in the lamp) will be available in Christmas shapes (tree, snowman, Santa).Trendy

It looked like a scene from a movie. And that's just the way Brandon Rike from Ohio wanted it to be.
His November 18 proposal at Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland to long-time girlfriend Lindsey went off without a hitch. Operation Marry Me was a success.
Rike coordinated all the details with Bronner's assistant supervisor, Connie Daenzer. There were the musicians to place in the perfect spot in the tree section; a little privacy for the proposal, the hugs and kisses (she said yes!), and the dance. Tears flowed freely.
Bronner's gifted the couple with a laser ornament featuring their photo.

THE SECRET IS OUT AT BRONNER'S CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND Back to Top
R.W. Fürst & Sons will launch Klaus Reinhardt's Secret Christmas Ornaments™ exclusively at Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland® in July 2005. "The Secret Christmas" storybook tells the true, mysterious story behind this new line of exquisitely painted, molded tin Christmas ornaments. Hidden away for over 50 years, these unusual ornaments were discovered in Germany just a few years ago.
R.W. Fürst & Sons, a San Francisco company specializing in Old World toys, has faithfully reproduced the tin ornaments created by young Klaus Reinhardt over 65 years ago in Lauscha, Germany, the birthplace of hand-blown glass Christmas ornaments. As a boy, Klaus accidentally broke his family's favorite glass ornaments every Christmas. His bad luck with glass led him to become an accomplished tinsmith who created beautiful ornaments from tin. Fearing ridicule, Klaus hid the ornaments. Fifty years later, his original ornaments were discovered at a German flea market. Author Charles Drummond has captured Klaus' story in a 32-page, cloth-bound book that includes 15, full-page color illustrations by artist Daniel Gill.
R.W. Fürst & Sons Old World Toys duplicates each of the features Klaus designed into his ornaments. Each ornament uses the same small tabs and folded edges used in the original ornaments. Each one is assembled by hand.
Beautifully packaged, each ornament comes with its own story card. The collection includes St. Nicholas, the Christmas star, angel, pickle, nutcracker soldier, and bell ornaments. A storybook and pickle ornament set is available as well as the complete discovery set.
Drum mond wil l be at Bronner's on Friday and Saturday, August 19 and 20, to answer questions about the collection, and sign book and ornament purchases. For more information, call or e-mail Cindy Baxter at (989) 652-9935, ext. 464, or at cbaxter@bronner.com.

Reminiscent of Bronner's former Tannenbaum Shop on Frankenmuth's Main Street, the Department 56 custom building is a Snow Village exclusive. When it is lighted, the store's windows shine with ornaments, and a tree, wreath, and fiber optic garlands shimmer with color. Made of glazed ceramics, Bronner's village piece measures 9 inches tall by 6½ inches wide.
Bronner's custom building, also featuring a billboard and Santa, will retail for $80. Orders are currently being taken by Bronner's customer service department at (989) 652-9931 or online at www.bronners.com. The exclusive will be available in September 2004, but anyone interested in this piece of nostalgia should reserve one to avoid disappointment.
IN A PICKLE OVER CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS? Back to Top
The tradition of the pickle is just one of 75 ornament legends, symbols, and traditions captured within the full-color pages of Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland's new book, "Ornament Legends, Symbols & Traditions." The soft-cover book is available at Bronner's store and website for $5.99.
The Bronner's team researched and edited material for the book; Bronner's artist, Connie Larsen, illustrated the pages. The legends, symbols, and traditions give insight to the meaning of themes and objects used in Christmas decorating. Each of the unique themes mentioned in the book may be found among the store's selection of 6000 styles of ornaments, many of which are Bronner's exclusive designs. Bronner's rich history of ornament knowledge dates back to 1965 when originator Wally Bronner first began direct importing Christmas merchandise.
A gift of a legend book and a few, specially picked ornaments would be a meaningful starter set for a newly married couple, graduate, or anyone beginning or adding to an ornament collection.
